Magic of Christmas
Although the magic of Christmas is now a vivid memory, the spirit and warmth of that holiday spirit continues for the students of School 22. As a volunteer for the Scott Spino Literacy Foundation, I rediscovered the true meaning of Christmas. On 12/22/2005 numerous volunteers arrived at School 22 like an army of Santa's helpers to bring coats, scarves, hats and gloves to every child at School 22. The children's reaction to the gifts
of warmth was overwhelming at times. Often the volunteers eyes were
filled with tears as many of the children asked if they could really keep the coats. It was obvious that these grade-school children were thrilled with these gifts from the heart, as they proudly made their way back to their classrooms sending wishes of a Merry Christmas and singing Christmas
carols. In those few hours of helping, I along with all the volunteers
recaptured the true meaning of Christmas - the looks on these children's faces, the sincere "thank you" and hugs, brought back to each of us the real meaning of this special holiday. I want to thank the Spino family, the teachers, the administrative staff and mostly the children at School 22 for helping me rediscover the true meaning of this magical time of year.
It is a memory that will continue to warm my heart for many years to come.
Sincerely,
